MASTER FIGURE ARTIST & TEACHER KARL GNASS WILL BE FEATURED AT
“THE FIGURE: MOTION & EMOTION” ART SHOW
PRESENTED BY LOVE/HATE LOS ANGELES
Karl Gnass will be one of the featured artists at “The Figure: Motion & Emotion”, an Animation Community Art Show presented by Love/Hate Los Angeles through July at the Animation Guild Gallery in Burbank.
The event will showcase various figure studies, as well as fully rendered art centered around the theme of the Figure, by talented artists in the animation community. The show is open to artists from all animation studios and includes figure drawing, watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, ceramics, and sculpture.
Rebecca Totman, founder of the event and animation associate producer of The Simpsons animated TV series, said, “The study of the figure is essential to the art of animation. It’s through these studies that animators hone their skills and translate their observation of the figure into the fluid motion of animation.” Totman says the intent of this show is to showcase the work behind the work of animation.
Karl Gnass, master figure artist and teacher, has been an instructor for over 25 years at the Animation Guild’s American Animation Institute, he’s an anatomical consultant on animation blockbuster films, and he has provided figure drawing and anatomical training to animators at major studios Disney Feature, Disney TV, Dreamworks Feature, Dreamworks TV, Sony Imageworks, Warner Bros Feature, Nickelodeon, among other studios. His students include Oscar® and Emmy® award-winning luminaries of the digital and traditional animation industries.
Among the featured artists are veteran animators from Fox TV Animation who have all worked for decades on The Simpsons, the longest running TV animated series: Mark Kirland, animation director; Paul Wee, Animator/Lead Layout Artist; and Cyndi Tang, storyboard artist.
The opening reception is on Friday, July 6th from 7:30 to 10pm, with the art show running through July 27th. Admission is free, contact the Animation Guild at (818) 845-7500 for the gallery hours.
