Karl's Classes at AAI
Karl is a veteran instructor at the American Animation Institute (AAI) in Burbank, founded and run by
the Animation Guild. The Animation Guild, I.A.T.S.E. Local 839 is a professional guild and union of animation
artists, writers and technicians. Karl teaches classes on a variety of subjects related to dynamic figure drawing.
With a unique style of teaching figure drawing and active anatomy, Karl is sought out by experienced animation
professionals, as well as aspiring animation students and members of the public. His 12-week semester courses,
both full day and evening classes, are in high demand and are often booked as soon as they open for registration.
The Guild handles registration for these classes.
Karl's Seminars
Karl also holds private seminars at the AAI, which may be a half day or full day intensive seminar or workshop on
a weekend date. Usually one is held each month. These seminars cover certain aspects of figure drawing, that due
to time constraints, are not able to be addressed in-depth in Karl's classes. Details and registration for these
seminars are announced on Karl’s web site as well as through his social media for these special events. Register
with Karl directly on his web site GnassStudios.com.

Q-1. What level of experience do I need to attend the seminar?
A. Professional animators, and artists with some figure drawing experience, will benefit the most from taking
these seminars. Artists who take my classes and seminars usually have a wide range of experience, which brings
about the ability for attendees to see things from different perspectives. Amateurs and beginners learn from the
wisdom of the professionals, while experienced professionals revisit concepts and skills from artists in the learning
stages. This promotes synergistic learning from each other and growth as an artist for all participants.
Q-2. I'm a professional animator, is this workshop for me?
A. Absolutely! I have worked with and trained top-of-the-line professionals at Disney Feature & TV Animation,
DreamWorks Feature & TV Animation, Sony ImageWorks and other studios, inviting to my classes technical
artists, effects artists, riggers, animators, story artists, etc., as well as illustrators, fine artists and amateurs
just starting out in their careers.
Q-3. I'm a beginner, is this workshop for me?
A. My personal definition of a 'beginner' is someone who has taken some figure drawing classes in the past,
is familiar with the basics of figure drawing, and already has some experience. My 1-day seminars are for
individuals who have some intermediate or advanced skills and are seeking to improve and refine their skills.
We delve deep into areas that cannot be covered in-depth in my classes at the Guild or at the studios.
This seminar is not an introduction to figure drawing. If someone is completely new to figure drawing
and hasn't ever taken any classes before, it will be too difficult to follow along and I am not able to spend
any time on the basics of drawing. For this reason, I recommend someone who's never taken any classes
to take some introduction classes to learn the basics of figure drawing before coming to my seminars.

Q-1. How many people attend each seminar?
          A. I usually keep my seminar size up to a maximum of 30 people. The reason that I like to keep my
seminars small enough, is so that I can give the attendees as much personal guidance and
          attention as possible.
Q-2. Can I take more than 1 seminar?
A. Yes of course, you can take one, two or all three seminars, based on space availability.
Q-3. Where do the seminars take place?
A. I teach quarterly 12-week semester classes for the Animation Guild during the week. My private seminars are
held one Saturday each month, in the same room at the AAI where I teach these Guild classes. The AAI facility is
located at 1105 N Hollywood Way, Burbank CA 91505.
Q-4. Will there be any drawing in the seminar?
A. Yes
Q-5. How is the seminar room organized?
A. The room has wooden "art horses" (which are also known as "benches") for the attendees.
Q-6. Will there be models at the seminars?
A. Yes, there will be models during each seminar.
Q-7. What materials do I need to bring?
A. A list of recommended supplies is included here:
Basic Art Supply List for Figure Drawing Classes & Seminars

A. You can pay by major credit cards Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover through the PayPal Shopping Cart.
You can pay by check or money order. You can also request a PayPal invoice.
Q-2. How can I pay by check?

                    Karl Gnass
2658 Griffith Park Blvd., Ste 337
                    Los Angeles, CA 90039
Please note that there is limited seating for each seminar, and seating is first-come, first serve. Attendance is only
secured with payment in full, and mailing a check will delay receiving your payment. So be sure to:
          1. Email us a copy of your Registration Form to info@gnassstudios.com to hold your space
          2. Call or text 818 254-8359 to let us know that you are paying by check
We will hold your reservation for 3 days to give your check enough time to arrive. The space will be released after 3 days
if the payment is not received.
Q-3. How can I pay by credit card?
A. We accept major credit/debit cards Visa, MasterCard, AmericanExpress and Discover. You can pay online at
gnassstudios.com through our PayPal Shopping Cart.
If you have a PayPal account, you can go through the shopping cart, sign in and make your payment at the checkout.
If you want to pay by credit card, but you do not have a PayPal account, that's okay because you will have an
option at check out to make your payment without signing up.
Q-4. Do you accept cash for the seminars and books?
A. Yes, I accept cash by special arrangement, although I prefer payment by check/money order or credit card.
To pay with cash, print & fill out the Registration form
and give it to me with your cash payment at one of my Guild classes.
Q-5. Can I pay you on the day of the seminar?
A. No, payment is not accepted on the day of the seminar. Having to process the payment before the class will
cause delays in starting the class, which isn't fair to the rest of the class. For this reason, prepayment is necessary.
Q-6. Do you have payment plans?
A. No, I do not have any payment plans. All seminars must be prepaid. However, if you are a PayPal account holder
you may be able to make payments through PayPal's payment plan options. You will need to sign up for the program
          through PayPal.
Q-7. I'm in one of your Guild classes, can I pay you in class?
A. Yes, you can pay me in class. If you're paying by credit card, you can pay me in class via Square. Or fill out
the registration form and give it to me along with your check, money order, or cash payment in class during the break.
Q-8. Can I drop off my payment with the office at the Guild?
A. No, the Guild office only accepts payments for their own semester-long classes. These seminars are
private so payment must be made directly to me through the ways described above in this section.

Q-1. What if I can't attend the seminar on the date I paid for?
A. Let me know as soon as possible if you can't make a seminar, so that someone else who is on standby can attend
and you will be given a credit towards future seminars.
Q-2. If a seminar is full, do you have a standby list in case someone cancels?
A. Yes, we will have a standby list. You can email us at info@gnassstudios.com or call/text at 818 254-8359 and we will
add you to the standby list, to let you know if there is an opening. If you prepay, you will be on a standby list and will
have priority to automatically receive any spaces that open up based on your position on the standby list.
Q-3. Can I get a refund if I can't make it to the seminar?
A. You will receive a full credit which can be applied towards any other spring seminar that has space available or for
future seminars. We will notify you first of any future seminars so that you can sign up, before they are officially
announced. You will have priority to select any seminars of your choice. There are no refunds, you will
receive a full credit towards future seminars.

Q-1. I purchased a book with my seminar, can I pick it up at the seminar?
A. Yes, any books you buy at the time of signing up for the seminar, will be brought to the seminar for you. They will
be signed and then given out at the seminar.
Q-2. I purchased a book(s) with my seminar, can you mail it to me?
A. No, any books purchased with the seminars are specially discounted prices offered to attendees of my
seminars, that do not include shipping. These books will be brought to the seminar and given out
at the seminar. If you want your book to be mailed to you, you should buy it through Amazon.com,
Stuart Ng Books, or Hennessey & Ingalls.
Q-3. If I buy a book through Amazon, can you give it to me at the seminar?
A. No. Books bought online through Amazon.com, Stuart Ng Books or Hennessey & Ingalls are
handled independently by those vendors and they will mail the books directly to you.
However, you can bring your book(s) to the seminar and I will be happy to sign your book(s).
Q.-4. Is there a requirement that I buy a book(s) for your seminar?
A. No, it's not a requirement for the seminar, but I believe it's a good idea to have at least one of my books.
If you're taking my Head Drawing class through the Guild, this is the only class that requires the students to
          buy the Head Shots book.

Q-1. Where Should I Park? Is Parking Free?
A. There is free parking to the left of the building, as well as free street parking. Note: to make sure
your car isn't ticketed or towed, I suggest that you do "not" park in the Target parking lot.
Q-2. Where is the entrance to the building on Saturday?
A. The front entrance is closed on weekends, so enter through the doors on the side of the building facing the parking lot.
Q-3. What about lunch?
A. Lunch will be exactly 30 minutes because we will be on a tight schedule, I recommend bringing a brown bag lunch.
